RSS - Real Simple and Sensible - Now available from IngentaConnect

RSS, huh?

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary - a web syndication protocol that allows publishing of "headlines" from any website in a machine-readable XML-based format. A program known as an RSS aggregator or feed reader can check RSS-enabled web pages and display any updated articles that it finds. This is more convenient than having the user repeatedly visit their favorite websites, because it makes sure that the reader only sees material that they haven't seen before, saving you, the user, time.

The Benefits of RSS:
It’s fast. As soon as content is added to a site it is picked up by the reader – no waiting for emails to get sent. With most aggregators you can choose how often to be alerted to newly found content – every minute if you want.

It’s proactive. New content is pushed to you, so you don’t have to bookmark a site and remember to check back to see what’s new.

It’s personalized. You can mix and match the sites you want to get news from – obscure blogs, mainstream news sites, whatever interests you all in one place. For the first time ever RSS feeds will be a feature of the Ingenta service. Individual users will be able to sign up for feeds of new issues loaded for journals they are interested in, showing a 'headline' of the issue numbers and dates with a link to the full table of contents on www.ingentaconnect.com. Your patrons will benefit from instant notification of new issues using the latest technology.
