Ingenta Labs launches with Power Tools

Ingenta Labs is a new area of the IngentaConnect website featuring some additional tools that can be used to enhance your use of Ingenta-hosted content.

First to feature on Ingenta Labs, and proving popular with users, are IngentaConnect Power Tools. Power Tools currently features four bookmarklets that we have found useful for searching IngentaConnect and integrating use of Google Scholar and IngentaConnect.

Bookmarklets are Bookmarks (or Favourites) that contain search commands. This means that you can run a search without opening a search engine in your browser, and you can run searches that use two or more services. IngentaConnect bookmarklets are free, easy to set up, and work like this:

Search IngentaConnect: Highlight text on any webpage, click on the bookmarklet and a search will be executed across titles, keywords and abstracts on IngentaConnect using the word(s) you have highlighted.

Author Search: As above but allows you to highlight an author's last name on any web page and use the bookmarklet to find that author on IngentaConnect.

Search IngentaConnect via Google Scholar: Highlight words on any web page and click the bookmarklet. Your search will be executed on Google but the results will be limited to articles available on IngentaConnect. Alternatively, select the bookmarklet and enter words into the pop-up box.

Google Scholar Highlighter: Once you’ve run a search on Google Scholar you can select the bookmarklet to highlight the results to articles available on IngentaConnect.

To find out more about how to add these bookmarklets to your browser, visit the Power Tools homepage.

Ingenta Labs was launched in December 2004 to bring some of the informal innovations, experiments and other projects worked on by Ingenta staff into the public eye. To see what we are up to check out the “Ingenta Labs” link on the IngentaConnect homepage.
