The Charleston Advisor joins IngentaConnect and BRILL backfile is announced

We are excited to tell you about our new partnership with The Charleston Advisor, and to let you know that we will be continuing and expanding the online publishing services we provide to BRILL Academic Publishers, whose content has been carried by IngentaConnect and its predecessors for eight years, and which have now added a 50,000 article backfile to its online catalogue.

The Charleston Advisor and Ingenta announce new partnership

Ingenta recently announced a new partnership with The Charleston Advisor, the leading consumer report for the information industry. The new partnership sees IngentaConnect hosting the online edition of the Advisor back to volume 1, number 1. The Advisor will also benefit from the IngentabyDesign service, which applies branding to enable its own website to seamlessly incorporate IngentaConnect's sophisticated feature set.

IngentaConnect will not only provide a dynamic new web environment to showcase the Advisor, it will also provide key support materials to information professionals. The Advisor's sister publication, The Charleston Report will also appear online in future.

“After consideration of available online publishing services, a key group of the Advisor’s prestigious Editorial Board chose IngentaConnect for its speed of implementation and competitive pricing,” says Editor-in-Chief Rebecca Lenzini. “We knew we could rely on Ingenta’s staff to deliver excellent service, and we trusted the IngentaConnect platform to perform well and provide solid functionality to our users.”

BRILL selects IngentaConnect to support 50,000 article backfile

We also recently signed a new agreement with one of our key clients, BRILL Academic Publishers, which will see 50,000 digitised articles, dating back to 1890, added to BRILL’s presence on IngentaConnect.

The new content will be available in early 2008, to coincide with its 325th anniversary, at which point many of BRILL’s 119 publications will be accessible back to volume 1, issue 1. Access to the Brill journal archive will be of great benefit to the academic community, enabling scholars to search a far broader range of content and to explore historical perspectives on their area of study and research.

Subscribers will automatically have full access to the archival content of all journals currently subscribed to, and will continue to have access to archival content for as long as active subscriptions are maintained. Institutional customers may also consider purchasing the whole archive or subject-specific archive collections, which guarantees perpetual access.

Under the terms of the new agreement, Ingenta will also supply the backdata to BRILL’s archiving partners, to ensure that this valuable content is both immediately available via IngentaConnect, and preserved for perpetuity.

“As online content proliferates, users expect that all the articles they need will be accessible electronically,” says BRILL’s Senior Vice President of International Sales and Marketing, Steve Dane, “and studies show that availability of backfiles is important for librarians to differentiate between academic journals in an increasingly competitive market place.”

Douglas Wright, Vice President of Ingenta, adds, “We’ve worked closely with BRILL for 8 years now, and in that time have always appreciated the opportunity to solve new problems for them. On this occasion, our proprietary content processing software will bring even their oldest content into the 21st century, with the state-of-the-art features and flexible delivery options endorsed by our 25,000 library customers.”

In other news, Publishing Technology, Ingenta’s parent company, recently announced its selection by the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) to provide a new generation of the BBC Monitoring web platform, a subscription-based service which collates over 3,000 global news sources for use by international businesses, governments and research operations.

The deal is testament to the strength of Publishing Technology’s position in the market and underlines the synergies created when merging it’s three divisions; Ingenta, VISTA and PCG to form Publishing Technology earlier this year.
