Out and about in 2008: speaking engagements, conferences and events
As always, we anticipate a busy year speaking at, and attending, information community events in the US and UK. We started in January with ALA Midwinter in Philadelphia a few weeks back, and next stop is ER&L, in Georgia, in just a few weeks' time (March 18-21). Jeff Downing, our new library relations manager, will be speaking at ER&L about the effect on libraries of increasing competition - from search engines, from Web 2.0 user-generated reference resources - from the internet in general. Jeff will talk about what publishers and other information suppliers are doing to help libraries combat or otherwise react to this erosion of their traditional role - we've got a sneak preview of his paper in this issue. If you'll be attending ER&L, look out for Ingenta in the sponsors' reception where you'll get the opportunity to meet Jeff - if you'd like to arrange an appointment in advance, please contact jeff.downing@ingenta.com.
