Brass tacks: Ingenta's library services in 2008

We had a busy year in 2007, developing and restructuring our library services to try and improve the way in which we serve the information community. We also made changes to our library services team, with new appointments and changing responsibilities. The transition period is now over and we thought it would be useful to set out the structure of our products, services and staff so that you are clear on how to get the best out of Ingenta, in 2008 and ongoing.

Ingenta library services structure

In the last year we have simplified the way we present our services and consolidated our various products into two packages:

IngentaConnect free service
The free service is used by libraries to access e-journals for which they have purchased a subscription from the publisher or a subscription agent; it is also used for low-level pay-per-view activity. Its features include:

  • free searching and browsing of 23 million articles (including abstracts)
  • subscription access to 11,000 e-publications
  • fax/Ariel document delivery for an additional 20,000 publications
  • OpenURL-compliant reference linking
  • W3C AA accessibility
  • banner branding with editing tool to upload logos, configure links and select colour palette
  • automated subscription activation by 9 subscription agent partners
  • comprehensive administration tools
  • COUNTER 2 usage statistics
  • end-user features including RSS, social bookmarking, citation manager exports, icons to indicate access rights.

IngentaConnect Complete
Offers all the features of the free service, but various upgrades or enhancements can be selected to reduce administration and increase the site's functionality:

  • Document delivery (more info)
    • payment accounts with unlimited, cappable cost centres and comprehensive reporting
    • holdings upload and OpenURL compliance to prevent duplicate purchase and redirect users to content licensed elsewhere
  • Current awareness (more info)
    • email alerting for new issues of favourite titles, or new results for user-specified search terms, across 23 million articles
    • customisable email text to optimise patron usage
    • comprehensive reporting
  • Website customisation
    • additional branding options to create a familiar environment for users
  • Patron pre-registration
    • upload log-ins and other details of patrons to enable access with their regular credentials

If you would like to find out more about any of these services then please do not hesitate to contact our library service representatives via libraryservice@ingenta.com.
