Upcoming Events: The Consortium Site License: Is it a Sustainable Model?

What is the Ingenta Institute?
Established in early 1999, the Ingenta Institute provides a focus for independent research and discussion within the electronic information industry. A non-profit organization, the Institute commissions research and hosts annual meetings in the U.K. and U.S.

The Institute is pleased to announce that for 2002 it has commissioned the first comprehensive international study into the impact of site licensing and consortia developments on publishers, libraries, and intermediaries.

You are Invited:
Join us to review and discuss the results of the 2002 research at two key events to be held in the UK and US:

Tuesday, September 24, 2002
The Royal Society, London, UK

Wednesday, October 30, 2002
The Charleston Advisor Pre-Conference,
Lightsey Conference Center, Charleston, SC, USA

Overview:
Little qualitative and quantitative international research has been undertaken to date to identify the real impact of site licensing and consortia developments on business models and collection management strategies.

Questions to be Addressed:
-To what extent is the consortium site license meeting publisher and library objectives?
-What are the perceived flaws in the model?
-Can we avoid a new serials pricing crisis?

Senior figures from the academic, library and scholarly publishing communities will attend the meetings to discuss the results of the research, and to evaluate the significant implications for future policy and strategies.

Speakers at both programs will include:
-Professor Donald W. King, School of Information Sciences, University of Pittsburgh
-Professor David Nicholas, Department of Information Sciences, City University and CiBER
-Professor Carol Tenopir, School of Information Sciences, University of Tennessee
