In the News: The Modern Language Association Takes Two Journals Online
June 13, 2002 - Announced today, Ingenta and the Modern Language Association have entered an agreement to offer library patrons online access to two leading MLA journals - PMLA (Publications of the Modern Language Association) and Profession.
First published in 1884, PMLA is one of the oldest scholarly journals in the country, with a subscription base of more than 30,000 individual subscribers and 2,800 libraries today. It is the flagship journal of the MLA and provides select essays written by members, a membership and administrator’s directory, advertisements, and a program for the association’s annual convention. Profession is an annual volume on teaching, curricular and professional issues, and will now be available for the first time to libraries.
Researchers will have access to PMLA and Profession through registered libraries and academic institutions on www.ingenta.com and its hosted service on www.catchword.com. All library patrons will be able to search and browse articles, abstracts and tables of contents for free. Institutional subscribers will have access to the full-text articles, while current subscribers will also have access to the 2002 backfile issues of PMLA and Profession.
Libraries that subscribe to the electronic version of PMLA will also receive the print version. In addition, they will receive both print and electronic subscriptions to Profession. The service will launch in January 2003.
