Ingenta and Publisher Communications Group (PCG) launch Consortialink to the Library Community

Consortia sales have become the norm, not the exception, within the global library industry, creating a new host of challenges for small and medium-sized publishers.

Increasingly, libraries and institutions are asking to access content through a common source, from a wealth of different publishers, at heavily discounted rates. Not surprisingly, publishers with smaller collections or limited sales resources have found it difficult to structure desirable consortia packages or negotiate — and close — actual sales.

That’s why Ingenta and PCG created Consortialink, a program designed to help publishers overcome such odds, with minimal investment or resources required to participate. Launched to the publishing community in December 2001, Consortialink now consists of twelve publishers and nearly 200 scientific, technical and medical journals, including: Adis International, Arnold Publishers, BIOS, CABI, Royal Society of Medicine and Urban & Fisher Verlag GmbH & Co.Kg.

How Consortialink Works
ConsortiaLink acts as an intermediary between publishers and libraries, allowing publishers to combine their resources into a premier offering that will be highly desirable to consortia and their member libraries worldwide. Publishers can depend on Ingenta and PCG to handle all the details of the sale, from prospecting to final license negotiation. These include:

• Prospecting: We leverage our extensive database of consortia agents, individual consortia library members, and subscription agents.
• Negotiation: We work with publishers on the specific consortia offer and agreed-upon negotiation parameters. We also handle all aspects of the sales process with relevant parties.
• Finalizing License Agreements: We've adopted the industry-standard licensing model, assembled by John Cox for the Association of Subscription Agents.
• Implementing Access: We oversee all aspects of making publishers’ content accessible, including IP verification and the authentication of individual consortia member libraries.

Ingenta is now accepting publisher participants for this newly-launched program. For more information or details on how to participate, please contact Claire Ginn, or visit the PCG website.
