Gale and Ingenta Join Forces to Link Periodicals and E-Journals

InfoTrac Plus is a new service that will allow researchers and librarians to use a single search to access online journals from Ingenta and Gale. Ingenta’s more than 5,400 scholarly and academic electronic journals will be integrated within Gale’s signature search framework: InfoTrac. InfoTrac, which is in use in more than 100 countries, is best known for its simple, intuitive search interface and rich array of services, including the availability of usage statistics, catalog links and reliable subject guides. The new service will begin with InfoTrac OneFile and Expanded Academic this summer and will later expand to Gale’s Resource Centers.

Combining the content within InfoTrac will create exceptionally broad access to core periodical data and e-journals. For example, InfoTrac OneFile, which already includes nearly 4000 full-text titles, could expand to nearly 10,000 full-text titles. Total periodical counts depend on the number of Ingenta subscriptions the library holds. However, a pay-per-view option will also allow users to buy individual digitized articles when the library doesn’t hold a subscription. The new service will also be available remotely.

InfoTrac OneFile and InfoTrac Expanded Academic with the new service option will launch within six months, but Ingenta and Gale officials note that current InfoTrac and Ingenta subscribers can activate a link immediately. Registration is free and available at www.ingenta.com.
