Publishing Technology Trends

Globe Theatre

Our new Publishing Technology Trends events are designed to communicate the latest developments in information industry technology to selected publishing industry executives. The first seminar will be held at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre on December 3rd and will feature:

Authoritative? What’s that? And who says?
Leigh Dodds, CTO, Ingenta

Leigh will look at how peer review and editorial processes are changing in Web 2.0. He will explore how those processes may be applicable to other kinds of applications, and will suggest some ways that publishers might begin identifying authoritative content and their publishing processes, with the ultimate aim of driving the creation of new kinds of search indexes and information discovery tools.

Beyond articles: non-standard publishing
Toby Green, Head of Dissemination and Marketing, OECD

The web allows us to disseminate a much broader range of content than that traditionally published, and publishers are well-positioned to capitalise on users’ growing expectations that everything they need is available online. Toby will assess the many types of data which can be suitable for online dissemination, and give a sneak preview of standards being developed to simplify links to this non-standard material from the more traditional content which cites it.

Behavioural targetting: the future of online advertising
Paul Goad, Managing Director, Tacoda

Behavioural targetting is revolutionising the way in which online advertisers reach prospective purchasers. Paul will give a brief history of the development of online advertising, and will explore how behavioural targetting differs from previous approaches, explain how it offers additional value, and predict future ways in which it could be developed to add further value.

The Online Publishing Proposition
Randy Petway, VP Professional Services, VISTA

Ingenta's February 2007 merger with VISTA, to create Publishing Technology plc, gave us many more capabilities which now mean that we have a broader online proposition which is better integrated with offline publishing tools and processes. Randy will overview the evolving landscape of online publishing, assessing differing inputs and outputs while showcasing new services, such as our discrete publications platform pub2web, and their relationship to our existing services such as IngentaConnect and IngentabyDesign.

Bringing it all together: where the trends will take us
David Warlock, Chief Research Fellow, Outsell, Inc.

David will bring his expertise to bear on the topics raised during the afternoon, and remind us of some other key issues currently affecting the publishing landscape.

After the presentations you will be able to tour the extraordinary Globe Theatre. We'll be opening with lunch and closing with a drinks reception to give you plenty of opportunity to meet our CEO George Lossius, to quiz our speakers, or compare notes with industry peers. We hope you'll agree that this compelling line up should not be missed!
