Elsewhere in the Publishing Technology group: BBC launch, digital publishing pilot

Our sibling organisations have also had a busy start to 2008 - here's a round-up of some recent announcements:

PCG launches new BBC Monitoring service
Expertise from right across the Publishing Technology group was drawn together in developing a digital publishing package for BBC Monitoring, which launched in April. We provided a new web platform, a subscription management system, and market research to help the BBC prepare to enter the institutional market. Ongoing, our PCG division will continue to provide sales and marketing service to grow BBC Monitoring's penetration, particularly in the European library market.

British Book Awards: Will Atkinson wins VISTA Industry Achievement Award
Our VISTA division sponsors the British Book Awards' industry achievement award, which was presented at a ceremony in Brighton, UK on May 13th. Faber & Faber's Will Atkinson was the deserving winner, from a stellar shortlist that included Bloomsbury's Richard Charkin (previously at Macmillan), Ian Hudson and Gail Rebuck (both from Random House), and the Book People's Ted Smart.

VISTA launches digital publishing pilot with Independent Publishers Guild
The program will help smaller and independent information providers to explore the benefits and evaluate the revenue generation potential of digital publishing initiatives such as virtual catalogues and online book samples. The project covers a cross-section of IPG members, enabling VISTA and IPG to assess the different ways in which publishers, distributors and others in the supply chain can incorporate such technologies into their strategies, and the effectiveness of respective applications.

PCG to represent Allen Press in Europe, and Thomas Telford in the US
The well-known US publishers cooperative, Allen Press, will use PCG to market its environmental, ecological and medical publications in Europe. PCG will deliver strategic marketing planning; gap and program analysis; multi-channel launch, upsell and renewal campaigns; development of multilingual marketing materials; and in-person sales to key prospects. Thomas Telford (publishing operation of the Institution of Civil Engineers) has also contracted PCG, to provide sales representation for its journals in North America.
