Integration Update

Be sure to read further in this article for answers to many frequently asked questions about the integration for our publishers.

Major infrastructure work has recently been completed behind-the-scenes at Ingenta, including:

• The groundwork for the creation of a single authentication and subscription information database, which will rationalize the data held in ingenta.com and Ingenta Select.

• A move to a new application server platform and the addition of enhanced templating capabilities, which will allow for more stable, speedier delivery of content, and provide us with the technological support to provide enhanced features and functionality throughout the Ingenta experience.

To launch in the early New Year:

• The migration of all authentication and subscription information into a new access control system, which will form the final key element to the infrastructure backbone of the new integrated service.

• A beta version of the new user interface, to be tested alongside and without disruption to the existing services. We will actively solicit the input of our users on the beta site to further develop the final interface.

When and how will I be informed about future, visible progress regarding the integration?

All of our customers (publishers, libraries, researchers) will be contacted regularly over the coming months as both behind-the-scenes and externally visible progress is made on the integration. We will be sending out regular, dedicated integration communications via email to all of our customer groups.

In addition to these email communications, we will be launching an Integration Update page in December 2003. Accessible from the home page of both ingenta.com and ingentaselect.com, this update area will list all of the key progress made on the integration of our two sites, in addition to including detailed FAQs for our publishers, libraries and users. All of our customers will receive word of the launch of this integration update page in the coming weeks.

What new features will be available on the new site?

The new integrated site will take the very best of ingenta.com and Ingenta Select, ensuring that all users will benefit from features previously only available on one website or the other. The new site will include research features such as table of contents and search alerting, marked lists, and reference linking. In addition to traditional subscribed journal content, the new site will support free issues, free trials, rapid publications and supplementary data. You can monitor our progress during the beta launch period of the site in the New Year. Your feedback during this period is greatly appreciated.

Do I need to prepare for any changes now, or in the coming months?

No, you do not need to do anything to prepare for integration changes and transfers of data. We will transfer your settings and preferences to the integrated site without requiring any effort from you, our publishers. We will invite you to look at your content on the beta site to ensure that you are happy with its presentation and accessibility prior to the final launch of the new site.

Do our subscribers, Ingenta-registered institutions and researchers need to prepare for any changes now, or in the coming months? Will access to our publications be affected?

No, librarians, institutional account administrators and researchers at Ingenta do not need to make any changes to their accounts, subscription data or links. Ingenta will be unifying all customer account and subscription information across ingenta.com and Ingenta Select, in addition to redirecting all of their existing links. We anticipate and plan that their transition to the integrated site will be a seamless one, and that access to your publications available via Ingenta will not be disrupted.

Who do I contact with questions or feedback regarding the integration?

Please email your designated client or account manager if you have additional questions or suggestions at this time, or email help@ingenta.com.

We look forward to the launch of our integrated service, and will do our best to keep you well informed of its progress over the coming months.
